What employers look for

NHS and private healthcare employers scan first for registration and right-to-practise checks, then for the settings you have worked in and the clinical skills you can use without supervision. Shortlisters often compare you against the person specification, so the words in the job advert matter.

Sections to include

• Profile: 3 to 5 lines on your band or level, specialty and what you are known for
• Registration & checks: NMC PIN (or HCPC number) with revalidation date, and Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
• Clinical experience: ward or setting, band, patient numbers and responsibilities
• Clinical skills: the procedures you are signed off for
• Mandatory training: Basic Life Support, safeguarding level, moving and handling, with dates
• Education: nursing degree, Care Certificate or NVQ
