What employers look for

Contractors and agencies want to know three things fast: are you carded and ticketed for the job, what have you actually built, and are you reliable. Most will read your CV on a phone, so short lines and clear headings beat long paragraphs.

Sections to include

Profile: trade, years on the tools, the kind of work you do best
Tickets & cards: CSCS (colour and type), CPCS/NPORS, IPAF, PASMA, SSSTS or SMSTS, ECS or JIB
Work history: employer, sites and projects, your role
Trade skills: what you can do to a finished standard
Tools & equipment: plant you can operate, your own tools and van
Training & qualifications: NVQ level, City & Guilds, apprenticeship

An example bullet point

Second-fixed 42 new-build homes across a 14-month scheme, finishing every plot inside the programme with no snagging returns.

Start with an action verb, say what you did, and finish with a result or number.

Tips

Put card expiry dates next to each ticket.
Name real projects and values where you can: "£3m school extension".
Say if you have your own tools, van and a full licence. It often decides it.
Keep it to one or two pages.

Mistakes to avoid

Missing card types or expired tickets
Only listing job titles with no sites or projects
Long paragraphs a site manager will not read on a phone
